History/Overview
Audi’s Sportback label is applied to four-door “coupe” variants of its mainstream car and SUV models. In the case of the S7, however, Sportback is the only way this slick mid-size car comes. Based on the more traditional S6 sedan, the S7 Sportback combines some of Audi’s best styling work with a hatchback body style that hides a vast cargo area.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
For 2022, the S7 Sportback gains some new standard features, which we’ve listed below.
Available Trims
Audi makes the S7 in a single trim, which is powered by a 2.9L turbo V6, an eight-speed transmission, and AWD.
Standard Features
The S7’s standard exterior features include 21-inch wheels, a sport exhaust, adaptive air suspension, heated/auto-dimming/power-folding side mirrors, passive keyless entry and LED headlights/taillights.
New to the S7’s cabin this year are a standard heated steering wheel, Alexa integration, an upgraded digital gauge cluster, and a phone box. S7 occupants also enjoy a panoramic sunroof, electric steering wheel adjustments, leather upholstery, heated front and rear seats, power-adjustable front seats, four-zone A/C, power door closers, navigation, and a head-up display.
The S7 also gains a number of newly standard safety features: rear side airbags, active lane departure warning, emergency assist, intersection/traffic jam/turn/predictive efficiency assists, adaptive cruise control, and traffic sign recognition. Safety items carried forward from last year include 360-degree camera views, blind spot monitoring, and forward collision warning/mitigation.
Key Options
A sport package bundles an upgraded rear differential with all-wheel dynamic steering, and red brake calipers. You can also add an exterior trim package that blacks out certain elements of the bodywork.
Fuel Economy
Audi’s fuel consumption estimates for the S7 are 12.8/8.5 L/100 km (city/highway).
Competition
The S7’s primary competitors are the BMW 8 Series, Mercedes-Benz’s CLS-Class and AMG 53 GT, and the Porsche Panamera. If you’re not necessarily shopping for a hatchback, you could also cross-shop the S7 against the BMW M550i, Audi S6, and Mercedes-AMG E-Class models.
